Ethiopian singer. 1931 - mid 1990s Born in the Sidama region, Issatu Tessema started his career young, singing at weddings and festivals in between days spent working as a shoe shiner on the streets of Addis Ababa. In 1946, he was hired as a vocalist in the Imperial Body Guard band, becoming one of the youngest professional musicians in the country at that time. When the radio service in the country began in the late 40s, Tessema was one of the first to be played and found himself an early hitmaker. He issued a few records in his career, mainly on the Philips label.
